We have been informed of a man who is suspected of trying to obtain money for medication by deception. A patient reported to her GP surgery that she had received a telephone call from a male who stated he was from the Practice.
He informed the patient the reason for his call was to conduct a medication review. The patient then believing the male was a staff member of their practice informed the male of her medication. During the discussion, the male informed the patient that unfortunately one of their prescribed medications was no longer available on the NHS and if they required it to continue they would have to pay.
The patient then handed over their card details and became a victim of fraud. There have been a similar spate of incidents in the Cardiff & Vale area in relation to medications but on those occasions patients were asked to pay for the delivery of their medications.
Please note that in Wales we do not charge for NHS medications in any way and for patients not to give out their bank/card details in any circumstances.
